# What does it cost to have a website made in 2026?

For a small business website in the Netherlands you pay from a few hundred euros to well over €2,500, plus a monthly amount. Here you can read where that difference comes from and which questions to ask before you sign.

## What makes up the price of a website?

Two amounts: a one-off amount for building it and a monthly amount for hosting and maintenance. Building is the design, putting the text in place and the technology. The monthly amount covers the server, the security certificate, updates and small changes. So never compare only the one-off amount, but what you pay in total in the first year.

## What do providers charge in 2026?

From €66 per year if you build it yourself to €2,500 or more at a web agency. In September 2026 we put the published prices of Dutch providers side by side. All amounts are excluding VAT.

| Provider | One-off | Per month | First year in total |
|---|

| Building it yourself with a website builder | none | €5.50 to €20 | €66 to €240 |

| Freelance web builder with a fixed price | €399 to €495 | €25 to €35 | €699 to €915 |

| Web agency | from €2,500 | varies | from €2,500, often more |

| MODEX, landing page | € 249 | € 12 | € 393 |

| MODEX, website up to 5 pages | € 449 | € 19 | € 677 |

If you pay the hosting a year in advance with us, the first year is €357 or €617. Building it yourself costs no builder, but it does cost your own time.

Where the amounts come from: building it yourself is the regular price of JouwWeb's paid plans, paid annually ([jouwweb.nl/tarieven](https://www.jouwweb.nl/tarieven), October 2026). Freelance web builders and agencies: the fixed prices Dutch providers listed on their own sites in September 2026. What is included exactly differs per provider. Our full prices are on the [pricing page](https://modexsoftware.nl/en/pricing/); the three routes side by side are under [Compare](https://modexsoftware.nl/en/compare/).

## Why do prices differ so much?

Mainly because of five things: the number of pages, the design, who supplies the text and photos, the features and who builds it.

- **Number of pages.** One page is made quickly. A page per service is more work, but makes you easier to find for each of those services. Our extended site of up to 15 pages costs €795.
- **Design.** Filling in an existing template is cheaper than a design made for your business.

- **Text and photos.** Do you supply them yourself, or does the builder have to write and find them?
- **Features.** A contact form is standard. An online shop with payments and stock is a different project; with us it starts at €995.

- **Who builds it.** An agency has more people and more meetings, and you pay for that too.

## Which five questions do you ask before you sign?

Ask about the domain, the monthly fee, the notice period, VAT and when you pay. With those five answers you can compare quotes fairly.

- In whose name is the domain name? It should be yours; read why in [Is your domain name in your own name?](https://modexsoftware.nl/en/articles/domain-name-in-your-own-name/)
- What is included in the monthly fee, and what does a change that isn't included cost?

- Can you cancel monthly, or are you tied to an annual contract?
- Are the prices including or excluding VAT?

- Do you have to pay in advance, or do you see what you get first?

Our answer to that last question: you first get a free preview of your new site, with your own text and photos. How that works is under [how we work](https://modexsoftware.nl/en/how-we-work/).
