Privacy statement

This is a translation for your convenience. The Dutch version is the one that applies.

MODEX (KvK 89703685) handles your data with care. Here you can read what we keep and why.

The free checks

If you enter a domain name in a check, we keep that domain name, the result and the email address that is publicly shown on the homepage of that site. We don't keep your name or your IP address; so we don't know who did the check. We use this data to see which sites have been checked and to offer the business behind that site a preview once. If you want a domain removed from this list, email info@modexsoftware.nl.

Domain names

If we register or transfer a domain name for you, it is in your name. For that we pass your name, business name, address, email address and phone number to Openprovider, the company through which we register domain names, and to the registry of the extension (for .nl that is SIDN). They use that data to register the domain name in your name and to be able to reach you about the domain name; sometimes they ask you by email to confirm your address. We keep this data for as long as the domain name runs through us.

Email packages

If you take an email package from us, your mailboxes and the messages in them are stored with a hosting provider we engage for that. We create the addresses and help you with questions; we don't read your messages, unless you ask us to look into a problem with you. You get a data processing agreement from us that states which provider it is and what we agree with each other. If you cancel, you keep access for 30 days to move your email; after that we delete the mailboxes.

The request forms

When you fill in a form, we keep what you enter: your email address and current website, and if you provide them your name, business name and message. We only use them to respond to your request, make a preview for you and, if you become a client, to carry out the assignment. To prevent misuse of the form we also keep a code derived from your IP address that cannot be traced back to you.

With a request we also keep the page on which you filled in the form and through which site you came to us (for example a search engine). That shows us which pages help. If you said "Yes, fine" to the question about measuring, your browser remembers until you close the tab on which page your visit started, and that is sent along too. With a check we only keep the article it was done from.

If you refer another business to us, we use your details to pay you the fee and the details of that business to approach it once with a preview. If we pay the fee to a private individual, we also ask for your address, date of birth, BSN (citizen service number) and bank account number at that moment. The law requires this: we report amounts we pay to private individuals to the Dutch Tax Administration once a year. Those details are only in our administration, which we must keep for seven years.

If you don't become a client, we delete your request no later than one year after our last contact. You can also ask for deletion earlier.

WhatsApp and Signal

The site has a button to send us a message on WhatsApp. That button is an ordinary link: there is no WhatsApp component on our site and nothing is loaded or measured until you click it. If you send us a message, we see your phone number, your profile name and what you write. We only use that to reply to you. WhatsApp is a service of Meta; their own privacy policy applies to what WhatsApp itself does with your data. Rather not use WhatsApp? Then use Signal, the form or email us.

There is also a link to write to us on Signal. That too is an ordinary link to signal.me: nothing from Signal is loaded until you click it. If you send us a message on Signal, we see your profile name and what you write; we only see your phone number if you have set that up in Signal itself. We only use it to reply to you. Signal is a service of the Signal Foundation, with its own privacy policy.

Email from MODEX

Sometimes we email businesses ourselves, with a preview of a new website. For that we only use business details the business has made public on its own website, such as the business name and the email address. We do that on the basis of our legitimate interest in offering our work to businesses; we only email a B.V. or N.V. (Dutch limited company), once and at most one reminder. If you view such a preview, we count that visit, without cookies and without storing your IP address (only country and network), so we know whether the preview arrived. If you click the link to our own website in such an email, we count that click the same way: per business, not per person. If you reply with “not interested”, we delete your details and our email exchange immediately, take the preview down and don't email you again; only the address of your website is kept, so we don't approach you again. If you don't reply, we close it a week after the reminder and take the preview offline. More explanation is on Got an email from MODEX?

Spam protection on the forms

To prevent bots from misusing our forms, we use Cloudflare Turnstile. As soon as you touch a form, Turnstile checks in the background whether you are human; usually you won't notice anything. For that, Cloudflare processes data about your browser and connection, such as your IP address. Read how Cloudflare handles it in the Turnstile Privacy Addendum and Cloudflare's privacy policy. If you don't touch a form, Turnstile is not loaded.

Dex, the AI assistant

On this site you can ask questions to Dex, an AI assistant. What you type and what Dex answers we keep for 30 days, without your name and without your IP address, together with the page on which you started the conversation. We use that to see what questions visitors have and to improve our explanations; for each conversation we note what it was about and how it went. If you give a thumbs up or down under an answer, we store that rating with the conversation. We don't build a profile of you and don't link a conversation to a person. The answers come from a language model by Anthropic, which processes your question for that. So don't share sensitive data in the chat. To prevent misuse we briefly count how many messages come from a connection; for that we don't keep your IP address, only an unreadable value derived from it, for at most an hour. If you want us to delete a conversation sooner, email us.

At your request Dex can create a ticket, a callback request or a request for a free preview for you. For that he asks your first name, last name and email address, and for a callback your phone number. We keep those details with the ticket, together with your question, for at most 24 months; we only use them to reply to you. You get a confirmation by email. If you want us to delete a ticket sooner, email us.

Cookies and statistics

Without your consent this site sets no tracking cookies. We count visitor numbers with Cloudflare Web Analytics; that works without cookies and without following you across other sites.

On your first visit we ask whether we may also measure your visit with Google Analytics. Only if you choose "Yes, fine" does Google's script load. Google then sets cookies with which it recognises your visits to this site, and processes data about your visit: which pages you view, with what kind of device and roughly from which town. We only use that to improve the site; Google's advertising features are switched off. Google may also process this data outside the EU; read how Google handles it in Google's privacy policy. If you choose "No" or choose nothing, nothing from Google is loaded.

We remember your choice in your browser, not on our side. Want to change it? Ask the question again. If you then choose "No", we also delete the Google Analytics cookies.

Where is the data stored?

The site runs on Cloudflare. Requests through the form go into our own dashboard, which runs at Vercel with a database in the EU. We don't sell or share your data.

Your rights

You can always ask which data we have about you, have it corrected or have it deleted. Email info@modexsoftware.nl for that. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
