New Outlook on Windows: setting up your email

For the new Outlook app in Windows 10 and 11, with the gear icon at the top right. You need your email address and the password of your mailbox; everything else is below.

Note. The new Outlook fetches your email through Microsoft's servers: your messages and your password are also stored there. If you don't want that, use classic Outlook or Thunderbird.

  1. Open the settings

Click the gear icon at the top right, choose Accounts and then Add account.

  2. Enter your email address

Type your full email address and click Continue.

  3. Choose IMAP

If Outlook doesn't recognise your address, it asks for a provider. Choose IMAP.

  4. Enter password and servers

Type your password. Click Show more if you don't see the server settings. Incoming (IMAP): server imap.migadu.com, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS. Outgoing (SMTP): server smtp.migadu.com, port 465, encryption SSL/TLS. The username for both is your full email address, with the password of your mailbox.

  5. Agree to syncing

Outlook says your email will be synced through Microsoft. Click Continue if you agree to that.

  6. Done

Your mailbox is in the list on the left. Fetching the first time can take a while.

Buttons sometimes have slightly different names per version than here; the details you fill in are always the same. If it doesn't work, first check that your password is right by logging in to the webmail.
